Khaya Mthethwa rises for greatness

khaya performs on idols stage
www.idolsa.co.za

Some say it was planned, some say this was a scam, some say Mellisa deserves it better. I say its pure talent. Khaya Mthethwa was on his tip toes from day one, bringing the best of his game. He came from a gospel platform singing for joyous celebration  but took pop songs and turned them into masterpieces. We were in constant awe after every performance of his. There is no doubt in my mind that Khaya is going places. He is hardworking, creative and the cherry on top his voice that will give you goose bumps every time he sings. Khaya is very versatile with his music he went in singing john legend at the auditions, took a song by Nicki Minaj during theatre week and made it so original,  to having his own single titled move. This boy has just got it and he is going places like Unathi Nkanyi one of the judges once said after one of his performances "this is your competition to loose " and it was true, this season was for Khaya. I have been following idols since day one, attending most of the shows  and i realised from my first one that this guy would take it home. He has never not even once disappointed us, his fans. He has always brought his A-game that is why we were so faithful in voting for him. Even celebrities like Minnie Dlamini, Criselda Kananda of Metro FM, DJ Tira and many more have opted to rally for this rising star. Minnie even  threw a party and invited all her famous celebrity friends all in the name of khaya. All they needed to do was to bring R500 worth of airtime to vote for khaya and they could enjoy the free food and drinks at the party. It was amazing that they actually showed up for him. @teamkhaya did an amazing job promoting the brand too. We saw people that haven't been on Mixit for years re-downloading it and buying moola all in attempt to get him his well deserved title. It is true what they say about togetherness it can change a lot of things. He wouldn't have done it if it wasn't for the unwavering support of millions of south -Africans who spent their money and time to make this young mans dream come true. It is really amazing what changes we as south Africans can bring if we come together and support our fellow south Africans, weather it be musicians, dancers, writers to politicians. We can make a difference if we want to,it is all in the name of togetherness ... Together we can achieve more . For videos of khaya Mthethwa visit www.idolsa.co.za

South African music industry and money !

South Africas legendary musical sensation , Mirriam Makeba

Random saturday im listening to radio  to some local artists and  it sudenly   dawned on me how South Africa has beutiful music but there is no growth. South African artists are not making money and that is a problem. Music industry in South Africa is captious, most of  these artists  are good but make no money from their talent.I needed to know why, so i thought why not take it to the fans the people who actually listen to South African music and find out what it is these artists are doing wrong. Why their music is not bought. From the litle survey that i did, I came to the realisation that the South African music indusry is verry  different from that of other countries like your America. South Africans mostly support arists that are not from their own country. Mostly because these countries set trends for us, as to what is acceptable social behaviour and what is not. From there we start to critisise our own artists because of what we are told works. They set the agenda for us and we simply follow. Artists like Drake, Lil wayne, Chris Brown etc have their tickets sell out even before they get here to perform. People will go all out to go watch their concerts or even just to buy their cds than those of their own artists. It is  a problem when our own people do not support their artists. This is what the majority of people think  from the research i did.
5 REASONS WHY SOUTH AFRICAN ARTIST DO NOT MAKE MUCH MONEY FROM THEIR MUSIC ?
  •   South African artists are not well marketed compared to artists  in other countries.
  • Most South African artists are not origional they try to copy international artists.
  • south african radio stations do not support their own artists.
  • Artists are underexposed and consumed less.
  • Bigger artists have more advertising support and a larger distribution ,that way the othere artists fade.
  • Their music is boring.
music is an art wich affects the lives of almost everyone.it generates millions in dollars and rands each year in the intertainment business. But it becomes rather despairing when you see artists not getting anything from it. For some not because they are not talented but also because of poor branding, an artist is a brand and if represented properly they can avail. It is within us as South Africans to change things for our country and its artists. Let us support south african music we have beutiful music and amasing artists that need our support.

WHY COMPLAIN WHEN YOU CAN DO IT URSELF!!

do it yourself

We are living in such  digital world, everything is at the tip of our fingers. It shocks me how people will complain about everything. Every time, everywhere, weather it be about other people or about what is happening to them ,transport ,food you just name it we will complain our way through it.Also we are constantly blaming other people about things gone wrong in our lives or even the things that are not happening in our lives that we would to be happening. We always have someone to blame. My father abandoned me as a child that's why i cant be a better friend, I'm disabled thus i cant follow my dreams.the government is not doing enough for us bla bla bla. Its always excuses excuses excuses  ... I say D.I.Y  (do it yourself) .

DIY PROJECT

Lisa Kudrow's "Web Therapy" began as an online sketch; It's now a Showtime series. "Annoying Orange" rolled from viral hit to the Cartoon Network; "$#*! My Dad Says" went from Twitter meme to a full-blown CBS sitcom. So what makes you think you cant do it yourself. In today's digital age you can do anything you set your mind to do   absolutely anything . Electronic media has certainly empowered people who otherwise never would have had a voice. So quit complaining and join the DIY community.
  • Write a book,  sell and publish it online.
  • You think music is your gift ,share it .Utube is not for established artists only .
  • Do something with your hands and sell it .
  • You think your the ruling party is not working for you ..vote for another one .
  • You think ur hair looks horrible change it .
  • Want to start your own business ? do it .
What I'm trying to say here is that you have the ability to do anything and everything you set your mind to. So run along and be the best you can be. You will discover that learning to do it yourself can be rather rewarding.

that gay friend ,your favourite accesory ?

The best thing about living in johannesburg is the fact that everyone can be absolutely anything they want to be weather it be a hippy,a stoner, or a book worm  you name it this city will welcome you with open arms. When you here you are better accepted for who you are than if you where anywhere else. Take gays for instance we have more gay people coming out the closet  and embracing their sexuality when they are in this city than anywhere else, and that's because joburg gives you the freedom to be yourself which for me is the best thing you can do for yourself.

Every gay men is unique, they posses a special  confidence, spunk and charisma. Most have amazing personalities other men dream to have. They are amazing to befriend and the most honest people i know ... NOW  the problem comes when girls just want a gay friend just because its said to be "cool " now that's absolute insanity. I mean it’s basically the same thing as saying, ‘I want an Asian best friend, so she can help me with math homework. It is mean and unfair to the gay society. This stereotype can even  rob gay men of their individuality and that forces a false image onto them. It is really bad to base your friendship on one aspect of this persons character, because no one is defined by their sexuality.  Are you friends with people who are straight just because they are straight ?obviously not.  Same goes for anyone who is gay, you are not only going to like them just because they gay. There has to be more to that relationship than the cool factor of having a gay friend, you might share your love for shopping and uncomfortable feelings of attraction to trey songs that's the extra bit that we love. Gay people are fun and exciting to be around, I mean I have tons of gay friends, and I treasure my relationship with them dearly. I just dont think they would want to be thought of as  a stereotype, and as a trendy accesory for girls.

A neck piece, a head band or purse ...accesories ,human being ?definetely NOT !!!

BITCH , PLEASE ! IM KHAYI MBAU

Its funny how celebrities have so much influence on society . We have given them so much power that they just left to do as they please . Was taking a look at our infamous queen of blings new book about her life , titled " bitch , please! I'm khanyi Mbau " written by the entertainment  journalist Lesley Mofokeng  .

I was perplexed !! I have always seen her in tabloid newspapers and all but i didn't think it was that bad . This book tells it all . From her abusive marriage at 19 , her  flashy lifestyle ,being the most wanted guest at parties  , to having  and affair with a married men . This book is basically giving young girls the 411 how it is like to date an older guy ... the nice life .

It is daunting how little self respect we have for ourselves . Its like we were never taught any values  from home . What happened to being a woman of substance ? how do things go so bad when we have such great woman leading us ? Winnie Madikizela Mandela , Jerry Rantseli - elsdon , Basetsana Khumalo the list goes on and on . They are never front page news . I came to realise that our young girls do not have real role models anymore actually we have lost the essence of what being a woman is all about  . And honestly its not khanyi Mbaus fault that she is like this , the media entertains her  behaviour ... So why not ? . Shes front page of every newspaper all because of her promiscuity .

KHANYI MBAU
I feel like as woman we do this to ourselves i mean if she could have just went to school gotten an education and make a name for herself properly . Life would have been better , now due to plain laziness she found herself in an abusive relationship . Now shes been called a whore , a chancer , gold digger all sorts of bad names . what is sad is the fact that shes not going down alone shes taking her family with , shes disgraced their name and dragged it in the mud . And now no one is gonna want to be associated with her after all this bad publicity , she can just stick to the entertainment industry she will definitely find her place there . I really hope that the woman that do read this book learn something from khanyis mistakes . Arnis Jitsu once said laziness will cause you pain. and khanyi mbau is a true example of  what he said . I hear people saying everyday how difficult life is , and I think to myself life is not difficult we make life difficult . We personally complicate things for ourselves . Lets just hope miss Mbau has learnt from her mistakes and has really started on a clean slate .

f2f communication takes the back seat

It is really funny how social networks have taken over .We have gotten to a point were our life revolves around these networks  you wake up in the morning and the first thing you do before even getting out of bed is to check you're cellphone , while you driving you texting , when you at a meeting you texting we are constantly click clicking  and check what is happening in and around the world , yes don't get me wrong getting with the times is never wrong , if fact its the way to go  . But it doesn't have to be in the expense of your happiness . People tend to prioritise social networks so much . Internet has made the world such a small place . We have development after development every single day . Weather or not its good , we still question . because Internet has taken out the fun in socialising people hardly every see each other just because you can just send an sms , a bbm , skype , watsapp you name it . Communication is at the tip of your finger . Yes it might have its many advantages but its got its disadvantages too , one which gets to me alot is the lies , you will hear people speaking on the phone saying they at home while they at a shopping mall , its so easy to lie because of social networks . Our profiles tell the world how happy we are and just how we enjoying life when in reality we  just lonely .We have become such an antisocial generation . Even when you are with people around you you are constantly worried about that tinny thing in your pocket that keeps vibrating . i really think we need to calm down just a little bit . Actually this has to start with me , alone , as an individual . Because as i write this post I'm literally taking 5sec breaks to read texts  . Yes social networks are convenient but we need to also take into considerence the importance of face-to-face communication . It is more real and satisfying ...actually i think its better *tossing phone in the bag * from this moment on , I am making a choice to spend my time usefully . New friendships cannot be made if your focus is on networks . You may never know the wonderful friendship that just slipped by , the client that could have changed the world for you as you know it , or the handsome soul mate that was about to ask you for a date had your cellphone not rang . www.helium.com .

HOW TO LAND THAT INTERNSHIP YOU WANT

Ever wondered how frustrating it is to get an internship ? you spend all these  years working hard and  studying only to find that you have to work extra hard to get the internship you want ? ...Well what if i told you there is  an  easier an faster way to do it using social media . Looking for an internship entails much more than looking through the classified pages of a newspaper , you can use social media which help you market and brand yourself . And social networks like  linked in , flicker , utube , facebook , twitter are there to make life a bit more easier  . Below are the steps to follow to land that internship .

  1. SET GOALS
First of all it is important  in every aspect of ones life to  know what exactly you want and how you plan on getting it . Do a lot of research and get a list of companies that you have an interest in and constantly check for openings .

2. KNOW WHEN TO APPLY
Some internship deadlines  start as early as November  so it is better to start early so that you do not miss the deadline . Check the internship listing to see what is required of you , it is usually the following ...
  • A resume
  • A cover letter
  • Transcripts
  • References
4. CONTACT POTENTIAL EMPLOYEES  AND NETWORK
Use the Internet and directories to get a list of candidates that could be interested in hiring you , attend conferences , career exhibitions etc to network and get as much information as possible .

4.MAKE USE OF UR SOCIAL MEDIA
We are living in a generation where things are constantly evolving and changing . What used to work 20years ago is not relevant now , that is why we need to adapt to the changing society . www.socialtimes.com  37 percent of employers use social media to research job candidates and an additional 11 percent plan to start . So might as well join the club , and get with the times . You can for instance get a linkdin profile to connect with other professionals with the same interest . You can also create a blog where you can show your writing skills and link it to various social platforms for prospective employees to see .
3.FOLLOW UP
Always make sure to follow up , respond to every  publicised internship that is relevant to your field of interest  . Communicate as regularly as possible with internship sites  to not miss out on any  opportunity . Call , email and visit your potential companies and tell them about your goals .

SOMIZI MHLONGO THE DAZZLED STAR

Somizi Mhlongo  blinging it on at the J&B METS

Somizi Mhlongo on the yellow carpet for the 18 sama awards
TV personality ,choreographer ,singer ,actor and socialite Somizi Mhlongo has once again caught my attention .He has proved to be the most outspoken ,confident and most courageous celebrity i know .with his shockingly outrageous outfits ,loud voice and flamboyant personality it is rather hard to miss him ,he always has a way of standing out from the crowd .i guess some people have just been born with the ability to turn heads and Somizi is definitely one of them .he is a true definition of a hustler .he makes sure he leaves no stone unturned .Mhlongo is a good example and an inspiration to the gay community .he was the first celebrity to come out the closet and expose himself to the whole world as gay.he does not care what people think or say about him he goes after his dreams ,he shows us that even when people do not accept you  and always bash you , you slap them in the face with  your  success nothing much  .he has made such a great success of himself having done acting in big movies like Sarina ,cry the beloved country ,Tarzan :the epic adventures and now he is a judge in the SABC 1 TV show dance your butt off .this all round fabulous  TV persona has proved himself to be a real catch especially on the dance floor  , he has choreographed for the likes of brandy ,Will Smith ,the opening and closing of the 2010 soccer world cup ,backstage and many many other artists  and prestigious  events .just when we thought hes reached his high somizi hits us with an album ....jaaa I'm not so sure about his musical talent but hey hes somizi ,he does whatever his mind is set on and that is why we love him .i mean he pulls off heels ??i mean which gay person has done that ? .he is a true definition of a trendsetter .he has turned the entertainment industry upside down with his amazing  talents .yes he has had his fair share of bad publicity but bad publicity is still publicity .we await more greater things from this awesome starlet .

great extent we go for fame

record holder Lee Redmond  with fans .

Khanyi Mbau the socialite ,Kenny Kunene the sushi king
People will go to the greatest extremes for fame ,and the easiest of them all is YouTube all u need is a camera ,a computer and lack of  sense and  you in and millions of people get to know you .People have gone as crazy as falling on their face or even eating a burger from the floor while drunk , lately you require no talent to get noticed .Take Idols for instance there are people that just go knowing that they do not have any talent whatsoever but got just to make it as the worst .Everybody will know you and recognise you on the streets and that's all they want  .Another ridiculous and widely known method is sleeping with someone that's already famous so the fame rubs on to you  ,young girls have degraded themselves all in the name of fame so many times ,some sleep with men older than their fathers if it will get them a step closer to the fame then its a done deal .Ripley's believe it or not is also a show that leave us in huge awe all the times  I remember a woman once grew her nails 35 inches in length which took her thirty years to do for what ? .prof Cary cooper said in his book that most famous people have one thing in common and that is many are not as self confident as we think .people desire fame because they love to be loved but when they get there they come to realise that people just love them for what they have become rather than who they really are which ends up reinforcing their self doubt further more .these people end up getting into drugs and alcohol abuse because of the loneliness they feel when they are not on stage .this all is ignited by the feeling of belonging , we all want to belong to a certain group or community  and be loved ,and some do all it takes to belong .Even if it means doing things that are out of order .This happens allot with school kids ,all of them want to be apart of the " cool squad " and funny enough the cool people are never the nerds of the class that work hard to get their grades nooo its usually the bullies who bunk class ,wear fancy clothes or even take illegal substances at times .and for one to join them there are sacrifices needed which is not really worth it if you think of it ,because most of them never really end up anywhere in life .A very sad reality about life is that it will not wait .rather be well known for doing good than bad ,fame is not all glitz and glam there is allot that is not told about this life that people most desire ,others even go to the extent of selling their souls to the devil .They come to realise its not worth it when things come crumbling down .

The great influence celebrities have on us

Blake Lively looking super fly out in the streets  with her adorable puppy

Miley Cyrus smoking in Toluca lake

was watching gossip girl  the other day and it got me thinking ,i want every clothing  item Serena wears in the episodes , and come to think of it ,not all of her outfits are that nice ,but because she is  famous and celebrities  set  trends for us we follow .huge brands like your VERSACE, GUCCI ,LOUIS VUITTON etc use product placement as a marketing strategy and  a  good way of advertising their products and services .they  invest a lot in celebrities because people simply follow them , they know for sure that if a certain celebrity is wearing their brand in a movie its surely going to create a buzz .that is why fashion designers work so hard to make celebrities clothing for awards ceremonies and prestigious events because it puts their brands in the lime lite  .for instance we know that Simphiwe Tshabalala the famous soccer player is an ambassador for fish and chips and we simply just flock there to try out the food because he eats there and he is famous  .people are interested in celebrities because they are our friends who have everything we want ,well at least we are told  . it worries me alot because the younger generation look up to celebrities ...take Hanna Montana for instance every young girl  wants to be like her  every boy wants her ,they buy her brands and watch her TV shows ,but is she really a good role model ? .it is important to know from a young age that celebrities will not always do what is right yes we can copy their trends but it is important to not loose our ethics and values as people because just because a celebrity does something it doesn't make it right .so go out there be  yourself and be the best version of yourself there will ever be  .individuality and  spontaneity is the new cool  !!!

is zaharas finacial status the publics business ?

I was listening to radio a few days ago where DJ T-BO touch was interviewing Zahara and Thembikosi "TK" Nciza  the co-owner of the record company she is under . that is after the damaging article that came up on sundayworld    on allegations that she is being ripped off by the record company and that she is being treated like their maid  . different people called in and asked all sorts of questions some even made demands .it got me thinking about the expectations we as the public have for celebrities .the life we expect them to live ,the cars they drive ,the houses they live in ,even the people they associate themselves with .we have put so much pressure on them to maintain a certain standard of living forgetting that they are also normal people .  what Zahara does with her money shouldn't be any of the publics business ,ours is to buy her music because it is appealing to us .as Africans we are told that when one gets their first pay you have to take it to your family or give it to your parents .yes that is what we are taught but its the decision of the individual to take and no one else  .we as the public need not to pressurise artists to succumb to the "lifestyle " if  Zahara wants to save her money and not splurge on things she does not need now , we should let her .We have seen many celebrities fall astray because they cannot manage their money properly ,some even have their things repossessed because as soon as money starts coming in they splurge .they start buying expensive cars ,houses and clothing to fit in to the lifestyle of the rich and famous  .once someone decides they want to manage their money properly people complain like they always do .Zahara is a role model especially  to young artists wanting to make it big in the music industry ,she is a true illustration of a responsible celebrity . she has proven to us that she does this because of the love not for the fame and fortune .you do not start with buying a car before getting a licence we need to stop rushing this lady she deserves to do things her own way .so what if she doesn't have a car yet ? ,so what if she doesn't have her own place yet ? .we need to learn how to mind our own business and support our artists  .to read the story visit www.sundayworld.co.za

are regular phones going to be phased out by blackberries ?

I'm constantly put in a very awkward position every time i meet new people because before they even ask for my name they will ask for my bbm pin ,and i will always get the "look " when i tell them i don't own one  .iv realised that people will go ballistic if they loose their blackberries like its the end of the world . most even feel disconnected and lonely . What am i  missing here because i feel like there has to be something to it that i am not taking advantage of , yes its cheap  and has allot of applications and its good for business but i have seen quite allot of better phones with better features than the worshipped berries  .
due to my curiosity i decided to do a little  survey/research to find out from blackberry users and people that use regular phones if  berries are eliminating regular phones ,  and  from what i have heard i notice that  blackberry users just use the phone for any regular phone. Everything is totally stock with not a single app installed. It seems like more people are into the phone rather than the potential of what a blackberry is for .  they will  get it because it just makes you cool to have one .The  ones that do install the apps are usually antisocial at all times  their blackberry is everything  .below are the results on  what people really think .

WHAT THE PEOPLE HAVE TO SAY.....
Ntombi Mduli (business woman)
blackberry is a statement of style and business and once you get one you cannot afford to get another phone .blackberries have the ability of sending mail faster than the capabilities of yahoo, gmail you name it .Technically a Blackberry handset is a personal digital assistant  it is push button service especially for a busy woman like me  its my life .
Michael Zwanze (student )
i love my berry because the Internet service is blazing faster than the other lot and as a student we usually broke so one needs a berry to get by ,you don't need airtime bbm and many other apps do the trick with just sixty rand a month i can connect with the rest of the world .i say its super awesome .
Mariam Moroni (house wife )
i need to be on the loop about what is happening in my children's lives and a blackberry makes it so easy for me .it creates a stronger bond between me and my children  because i can chat to them any time of the day and it is way cheaper than a phone call  .i also love it because it makes me such a cool mom haha!

Maseloane Curtis (communications practitioner )
Majority of Blackberry users experienced loss of service, or partial disruption in service in the first half of October and my nokia has never disappointed me ,i dont need to carry a charger everywhere i go like blackberry users because the  battery life is long .so i doubt these blackberries are gonna take over .
Charmaine Bloomwood (student)
apparently blackberries are no longer gonna be produced so hey ,no phasing out is bound to occur

does social media define who we are ?

The media shape our attitudes about everything from soap to politics. It's important for us to be aware of the impact the mass media has on each and every one of. We need to be vigilant and ask ourselves to look for opposing opinions and evaluate the facts for ourselves rather than blindly accepting the media's version of the "truth."social media is dramatically reshaping our relationship with ourselves .we live in a society were we depend on the media to keep moving in the right direction doing what is said to be "cool" even when it does not link with our core values , we follow just because media or some big shot celebrity does it .We have put our trust on the media as an authority to give us news, entertainment and education and so much more , yes its been great help but what happened to personal opinion ?are we  no longer fit to decide for ourselves what works for us and what doesn't ?.the influence of the media on us is sky rocketing as days go by .

we need the media to keep us in touch with the outside world  However, the influence of social  media on ourselves, family  and society as a whole  is so big that we should know how it really works. more women are obsessive with losing weight even when they are not obese, there are many thin women that want to look like the super models and thin celebrities so they engage in eating disorders which leads to severe health issues and  even death . The media shapes our attitudes about everything from soaps ,music ,fashion ,movies ,food to  politics. It's important for us to be aware of the impact the  media has on each and every one of us . We need to be vigilant and ask ourselves to look for opposing opinions and evaluate the facts for ourselves rather than blindly accepting the media's version of the "truth" .it all boils down to one question .....who comes up with those standards ?.who decides if a size zero is the most appropriate for a woman ?who decides that if u do not wear certain trends you are uncool ?.the media possesses so much power over us and we fail to realise it  , it  is so powerful that sometimes we fail to see when it sneaks its way in our lives .http://www.selfgrowth.com/

HOW TO ESCAPE THE MEDIA INFLUENCES
  • live life do not live life in the loop.
  • choose what you wish to be updated on.
  • do not let anyone influence you .
  • believe in that inner voice you have it never disappoints.
  •  most importantly be yourself.
there is more to life that what we think .be an individual create your own dreams and goals and go after  them.not because media says so  but because it bring fulfilment to you and only you .
